Pupa Leendi – Manimal
Pupa Leendi will be performing live at Montreal’s Carifiesta Jouvert Party & Fish Friday on Friday, July 5th at Ganesh Party Palace.
Pupa ‘De Don Man’ Leendi was born Lyndon Adams in the beautiful island of Carriacou (Grenada) and is of Trinidadian and Grenadian parentage. Music runs in his veins – his father was a musician and his mother was a singer in a local choir. His eldest brother was the lead vocalist in one of Grenada’s top bands – Roots Rock. His sister was signed to an R&B group and an uncle is the lead vocalist in Brookyn-based group Lambert and the Matadors. Furthermore, another of his uncles won Carriacou Road March King in 1977 and a cousin leads vocals for reggae super group Aswad.
Pupa Leendi became a DJ in Grenada at 14 years old and continued after he moved to Brooklyn, NY. His musical influences are Bob Marley, Shadow, Peter Tosh, The Mighty Sparrow and Charlie Wilson. His favourite genres to sing are Groovy Soca, Jab Jab Soca (Grenada), Dancehall Reggae and Lover’s Rock Reggae.
Leendi began his singing career in 2004 and won Carriacou Road March King in 2006, 2007 and 2008 for Mo Rum, Camboulay and Rum Oye, respectively.
Pupa Leendi‘s biggest hit Rum Oye (remixed with Blaxx of The Roy Cape All-Stars) went on to become number 1 in Canada, the UK and the USA. Since then Leendi has been writing music for other artists including Lady Mac, Randy Isaac, Shortpree, Bling and many others.
Randy Isaac‘s Mo Mas (written by Leendi) placed second in Grenada Spice Mas Road March in 2012. Top Winers, also sung by Isaac and penned by Leendi, scored second in Groovy Soca Monarch (Grenada Spice Mas 2012). Additionally, Carriacou Road March tune Sailing by Shortpree was produced by Pupa Leendi.
